The Mississippi Chapter is not the only Sierra Club Chapter concerned with LNG. Other coastal states such as California and Maine also weigh in on the proposed ports on their chapter websites at CA and ME.
Federal Agencies
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has chief oversight on LNG facilities, to regulate its transmission and sale, approve facitility sitings, and oversee environmental matters.
The Department of Energy will provide you with the facts on natural gas and LNG at DOE where you can also find information on alternative sources of energy.
In March of 2002, the Environmental Protection Agency released a fact sheet on liquefied natural gas. Although the fact sheet does not address the effects of LNG facilities, it does provide a background on the uses on LNG. Find the fact sheet here.

Industry
Cheniere LNG has proposed various LNG receiving terminals in the Gulf, including an onshore plant in Mobile Bay, AL.
ChrevronTexaco, one of the world's largest producers of natural gas, has proposed various LNG projects along our coasts, including an onshore facility in Pascagoula, MS.
ExxonMobil, which is working with Qatar Petroleum to bring liquefied natural gas to Texas and the U.K., has proposed offshore plants in Texas and Louisiana.
Sempra Energy, which is planning two LNG ports in the Gulf and one on the west coast of Mexico, has extensive information on LNG and its proposed facilities.
Educational Groups
As an environmental advocacy group, Greenpeace has put together a report on LNG, which you can find on its LNG campaign page at Greenpeace.
The Institute for Analysis of Global Security puts out a montly issue of Energy Security. For information on the safety of energy sources such as LNG and to read the current issue, go to IAGS.
The Institue for Energy, Law at Enterprise at the University of Houston has put together a comprehensive report on LNG safety. To read the report, click here.
Public Citizen, a national non-profit consumer advocacy organization, provides information, action alerts and testimony on LNG at Critical Mass Energy.
LNG from Coast to Coast
The Conservation Law Foundation, an environmental advocacy group in Boston, is concerned with LNG siting in New England, where many of the same issues prevail. Check out the group's LNG resources at CLF.
Based in California, LNGWatch.org is dedicated to making LNG ports safer by disseminating information about LNG to other activists, regulators, and government officials across the nation. Find out more at LNG Watch.
The Environmental Protection Information Center in California is concerned with a proposed LNG port in pristine Humboldt Bay near San Jose. They have gathered many helpful resources for anyone studying LNG, at EPIC.
