The foundation awarded over $100,000 in grants to fund nine trail projects in seven locations across the United States, and the Central Group was fortunate to be one of the recipients. The Museum to Market trail project, like all of the other projects, focuses on connecting people with nature, particularly in urban areas. "Whether it's neighborhood green spaces or vast expanses like the Grand Canyon, the wild is where you find it," said Peter Martin, executive director of the Sierra Club Foundation. "We're excited to be working with local partners to grow opportunities for everyone to experience our public lands."
The Trails Connecting People with Nature program is a continuation of the Sierra Club's work to get more people unplugged and outside. Through its outdoor programs the non-profit hosts over 265,000 people each year in the outdoors.
The Central Group is working in partnership with a number of other groups on this project, including the Museum of Natural Science, the Jackson Trailblazers, the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce, the Jackson Heart Foundation and the City of Jackson. The Central Group and its partners are working to develop the Museum to Market Trail, which connects LeFleur Bluff State Park to the Farmer's Market in downtown Jackson.
