The One River-No Lake Coalition invites you to a Community Meeting on the One Lake Project which is being proposed for the Jackson metro area. The One Lake Project is a plan to dredge, widen, dam and develop the Pearl River in and around Jackson, which poses downstream impact to our coast. Come and learn about the potential community, economic and environmental impacts of the project.

MISSISSIPPI PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION ISSUES REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

The Mississippi Public Service Commission issued a Request for Proposals (RFP),
seeking an independent contractor to conduct a study on the actual benefits of distributed generation in Mississippi. This study is required of Mississippi per the Mississippi Renewable Energy Net Metering Rule. Studies of this nature have been conducted across the nation with varying levels of net benefits and costs concluded to occur. The proposal due date is May 25. The contract will be awarded on June 5. The project period will be from July 2018 to December 3, 2018. Funding for the study will be collected from the utilities.

The One Lake project, is currently being reviewed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This project has been proposed in various forms for over 20 years, and is a plan to dredge, widen, dam and develop the Pearl River in and around Jackson, MS. The One River, No Lake Coalition, which includes the Gulf Restoration Network,, Jackson Audubon Society, Mississippi Wildlife Federation, Pearl Riverkeeper and Sierra Club Mississippi, came together on April 24th to hold a public forum on the project.

MISSISSIPPI NATIVE PLANT SOCIETY CONFERENCE 2018

The Mississippi Native Plant Society (MNPS) will be holding its annual conference this year in Starkville on May 19-20.

The MNPS is a non-profit organization established in 1980 to promote the preservation of native plants and their habitats through conservation, education, and utilization.

The conference is free to paid-up members; there will be a $10 fee for non-members which comes with a one-year membership. Advance registration is not required. Additional details will be posted on the MNPS web site as they become available.

BLANTON DECIDES NOT TO APPEAL PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION FEB. 6TH ORDER

Thomas Blanton has announced, through his counsel, Michael Adelman, that he has decided not to file an appeal to the Mississippi Supreme Court of the Mississippi Public Service Commission’s Feb. 6, 2018 Kemper Order. This Order approves the Second Amended and Restated Stipulation and allows MPCo to go forward with the Kemper plant as a stand alone natural gasfacility or Kemper CC.

Despite ​snowy ​sub freezing temperatures, Mississippians turned out in droves on Saturday to protest Trump's visit to our state. This cheap political stunt orchestrated by Trump and the sitting Guv, backfired in a flurry of bad local and national press. Trump's despicable track record on Civil Rights going back to the Central Park Five, was again highlighted, providing a catalyst for Mississippians to take to the street.
