FIRST ANNUAL PEARL RIVER CLEAN SWEEP 2017

WHEN: Saturday, September 23rd, 2017, 8:00am
WHERE: Choose from over 30 locations! Cleanup teams will be deployed along the Pearl River Watershed from its Headwaters in Nanih Waiya, Mississippi, downriver through the Ross Barnett Reservoir, along the border of Mississippi and Louisiana, all the way to Pearlington on the Gulf Coast.

JOIN US ON DECEMBER 10TH FOR CITIZEN SCIENTIST SATURDAY

Join the Mississippi Sierra Club Coast Group for an outing to the Pascagoula River Audubon Center. We will meet for Citizen Scientist Saturday, where the discussion will cover the new science of Phenology. Phenology is the study of the timing of natural phenomena which is undergoing gradual but perceptible change due to global warming. Following the presentation we will share a sack lunch at one of the outdoor decks, weather permitting.

MASTER NATURALIST PROGRAM COMING IN SPRING 2017

The Mississippi Sierra Club, as part of its Outdoor Adventures program, is sponsoring a master naturalist class next spring. The master naturalist class will be taught by Mississippi State University. The Master Naturalist Program provides natural resource training to individuals in exchange for outreach and service educational efforts in natural resources and environmental awareness programs in their communities.

JOIN US FOR A KAYAK TRIP DOWN THE PEARL RIVER ON OCTOBER 8TH

SIGN UP TO REGISTER FOR THE EVENT! The Mississippi Sierra Club is sponsoring our second kayak trip of the year October 8th. This time we will be traveling from the Reservoir down to LeFleur Bluff State Park, and we will be providing a guide to tell us about the river and the surrounding habitat.

There are two upcoming public meetings related to Deepwater Horizon oil spill restoration. The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council (Council) has released a proposed update to its 2013 Comprehensive Plan that provides important additional strategic guidance for the Council to follow as it makes decisions on funding future projects and activities.
